Sorry state of Windows Phone in Singapore
My account is purely anecdotal, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Over the weekend, I was tasked to sell off a Nokia Lumia 520. The phone was only released last month and I thought that it would be easy to sell it off. It runs the new Windows Phone 8!
To my horror after delivering the poor product to the neighbourhood mobile phone store (aka ah beng handphone shop) the sales lady said that she could not take it off my hands.
Reason? No resale market.
In all honesty, I think that the device is pretty spiffy but perhaps people just need to give the OS a chance.
To rub salt into the whole experience, the shop took in an iPhone 3G in which the sales lady grumbled, “tsk, cannot run whatsapp.. :\”
To which I countered, “The 520 can run leh”. The reply? “But still no market leh”.
Okay, you win.
Pity, I don’t have the opportunity to test the phone past the startup page in order to preserve what little perceived resale value it has.
