Annals of a Dying World of Warcraft Guild Part 3
Running raids with a small band of friends was by far the most excellent setup ever.
There’s no need to manage DKP, egos or loot drama. Or at least, such issues do arise but it matters little as most of us shared a deeper connection with each other. After all, most in the guild have played with each other at some point we weren’t exactly strangers to begin with.
In retrospect, I found it quite amazing when we started raiding. Each and everyone of us had the time and energy to dedicate five nights a week to push for progression. While we may have raiding in quantity, each session lasted around three hours on weekdays. We were, after all, working individuals who had to wake up the next day to continue to real grind.
It all started off with Blackwing Descent with a semi pug and undergeared healers. Having raided previously with another PuG guild run, I had to impression that 2 healers was more than sufficient to tackle to encounter. I could not have been more wrong.
My blind faith cost us a good night and made me realize that the guild was not as geared as I thought it to be. So it was another good week or two before we were able to enter the dungeon again.
At this point of time, we only had two healers, while the third was trying his best to hit the cap.
The challenge here is how does one keep oneself occupied while waiting for your friends to hit the cap. For myself, it was pretty much joining pugs as an off-tank to get a first hand feel of the encounter. DPS classes, however, have a harder time getting into such raids as they are a dime-a-dozen.
By the time we were all geared to raid, the monster of lag reared its ugly head. This problem easily crippled 3 guys in our raid and effectively halted us from starting even earlier.
